Just like any other industry, the wedding world has its own vocabulary. In order to properly communicate your wishes with vendors, you need to speak the lingo. If you are considering a smaller wedding celebration, there are several different options for a petite event. Below is the terminology that you need to know when prepping for your nano nuptials.

NEED TO DOWNSIZE YOUR WEDDING? HERE ARE 4 OPTIONS

Elopement. This term has gained some popularity and is sometimes misused to refer to a Micro-Wedding. In its truest sense, an elopement is just the two of you and an officiant…very Romeo and Juliet, but without the poison. Today, elopements sometimes include a few other vendors like a photographer and maybe a handful of close friends or family members. Elopements are typically followed up by a larger reception celebration to include extended family and friends.

Micro-Wedding. As the term suggests, this is a celebration with very few guests. A popular option for destination and backyard weddings, Micro-Weddings usually have around 10 guests but no more than 20 guests. This is a great way to have a stellar and sophisticated event with only your dearest people. Again, some couples host a larger reception celebration later that day, month, or year after their Micro-Wedding.

Intimate Wedding. These small weddings are similar to Micro-Weddings, but the guest count ranges from 30-75 guests. An Intimate wedding has all the same features of a typical wedding just with a decreased guest count. The price tag also is on par with an average wedding, but with a higher spend per guest. Those attending the wedding can expect an elevated menu, bar, and decor. Here, a later reception rarely occurs.

Pop-Up Wedding. Around the same size as a Micro wedding (10-20 guests), Pop-Up Weddings take all the planning and prep out of the couples hands. Vendors will complete a total wedding design and style the venue to host several weddings throughout the day in a single location. Get dressed, choose a time, invite a couple friends, and get married. This is a wonderful option for couples who don’t want to stress about the thousands of wedding details but still want a luxurious day. Even if it means a little less control over the day, Pop-Up Wedding couples will have a top of the line, highly styled celebration at a fraction of the cost.

Ever since coronavirus came on the scene earlier this year, more and more couples are opting for a smaller affair. Now that you have the inside scoop on the types of small events in the wedding world, choose one that fits your style and budget. Happy planning!
