Weddings are continuously evolving as couples get more and more creative with the style and logistics of their wedding celebration. As time goes on new traditions are formed. These days, anything goes when it comes to designing your wedding day plans. Ultimately, there are no limits, so feel free to make it your own! Here are some of the newer traditions that are being implemented into wedding days.
First Looks. The idea of seeing each other before walking down the aisle is not necessarily new. It is a great way of getting wonderful photos and having a private, emotional moment before vows take place. We are now seeing that not only are couples having a first look moment, but many brides are having a first look with their fathers. Feel free to be creative with your grand reveal with anyone that is close to you.
Wedding Party. Consider eliminating the wedding party altogether. Some couples opt for no wedding party standing with them at all anymore. This doesn’t mean that you can’t spend the day with your closest friends getting ready or having a bachelor/bachelorette weekend, just that no formal role is present. Ultimately, not having a wedding party can make parts of the day simpler.
Social Networks. We are all on our phones and without a doubt, guests will have their phones with them on your wedding day. Some couples choose an “unplugged” ceremony where they ask guests not to use their phones for photos, etc during the ceremony. You can also embrace the social media frenzy by creating a custom hashtag for your wedding day or having a photobooth that texts the pics directly to a phone number or email. Either way, modern technology and social media will play some role on your wedding day.
The Aisle. There is no steadfast rule that a father-figure must walk you down the aisle. These days, we have seen solo walks, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, step-parents, and the whole family escort both brides and grooms down the aisle. Anything goes!
Diamonds. Even the traditional wedding ring has changed. Couples are stepping outside the box with precious stones and wedding rings. Diamonds will always be popular, but with a variety of colors and cuts, non-traditional rings are here to stay. Consider a completely different stone like a pearl or sapphire.
Bouquet Toss. This tradition has been fading for years and is close to not happening much at all anymore. Collecting your single friends is, well, uncomfortable. Instead many couples are giving the bouquet to the couple in attendance that has been married the longest.
Cake. It is no surprise that couples are getting very creative with the sweets served at their reception. Wedding cakes are getting set aside for other options like donuts, pies, cookies, ice cream, and other sweet treats.
Vows. Customizing your wedding vows and stepping away from traditional texts has been more and more popular. Adding a personal touch in all aspects of your wedding is a trend that will stay.
What wedding tradition will you be adding to your big day? Happy Planning!
