So you’ve chosen your location, date & figured out your wedding budget (what we call THE BIG THREE), now it’s time to decide on your overall wedding style. Your wedding venue and wedding gown will absolutely dictate your wedding style. Then your color scheme will come into play when selecting flowers, decor, and other vendor options. There are dozens of styles (we’ve already covered Boho, Romantic & Tropical Wedding Styles), that you can choose from and you can even incorporate multiple styles into your big day. Today we are focusing on the Formal Wedding Style. These black tie affairs pull out all the stops for a truly luxury experience for their guests. Typically associated with a larger wedding budget, formal weddings take every element to the next level.
Venue. The Formal Wedding Style can be accomplished in a variety of venue settings. But when asking guests to dress in their finest, definitely consider the location. Formal Weddings tend to be held in ballrooms, hotels, large tents, museums and event halls.
Dress. When it comes to the gown, the sky’s the limit. Formal Wedding Gowns can come in any shape or cut, but the style is more traditional and less free spirited like a Boho or Southwest style. Fabrics like organza, taffeta and satin fall under these styles. And we can’t forget lace and sparkles for formal brides who want a little more flair.
Color Palette. Formal Weddings are not limited to a color palette, however, overall, Formal Weddings take on a more mature tone. Staying within the classic black + white with a small hint of color based on the season is typical.
Decor/Design. The dress code and overall elevated feel on this style leads the decor to be crisp yet overflowing. Large centerpieces bursting with blooms such as orchids. Five tiered cakes towering and delicious. A plated dinner fit for royalty with white glove service. A Formal Wedding Style can be paired with classic, traditional styles with a modern foundation or you could even consider a Formal Wedding Style with glam elements and bright styles. The most important thing is that it reflects you!
